OUR IMPACT
Since our founding, A Soldier’s Journey Home has built 11 life-changing homes for disabled veterans in Georgia (3), Tennessee (2), Illinois, Texas, Ohio, Maine, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Louisiana.
These homes have been constructed by current and retired firefighters, veterans, and supporters from more than 23 states, all donating their time away from work and family to serve those who have served our nation.
The impact of each build extends far beyond the home itself—strengthening communities, forging lifelong bonds among volunteers, and reminding veterans that their sacrifices are remembered and honored.
WHO WE SERVE
We serve veterans whose lives have been permanently altered by injuries sustained in service to our country. Each veteran selected for an A Soldier’s Journey Home build has demonstrated resilience, courage, and a commitment to moving forward despite extraordinary challenges.
By providing a safe, accessible, and mortgage-free home, we help ensure that physical limitations and financial burdens do not define the next chapter of their lives.
At A Soldier’s Journey Home, we don’t just build houses—we help heroes come home.
WHY IT MATTERS
For many veterans with service-connected disabilities, coming home does not mean life becomes easier. Standard housing often presents daily barriers—stairs, narrow doorways, inaccessible bathrooms—that limit mobility, independence, and quality of life.
A specially adapted home removes those barriers. It restores dignity, reduces dependence on caregivers, and allows veterans to focus on healing, family, and the future. A home is not just shelter—it is freedom, stability, and a renewed sense of possibility.
HOW WE BUILD
Each A Soldier’s Journey Home build is a national effort grounded in community partnership. Volunteers travel from across the United States to work side by side with local supporters, tradespeople, and donors to complete a fully accessible home in just two weeks.
Every home is custom-designed to meet the unique needs of the veteran recipient and may include:
- Zero-step entries and wider doorways
- Accessible kitchens and bathrooms
- Roll-in showers and adaptive fixtures
- Thoughtful layouts that support long-term mobility
All labor is volunteered, and every home is delivered mortgage-free, ensuring long-term security for the veteran and their family.
"ASJH is an amazing organization, family! I'm very grateful for the home that they built. We feel truly blessed to wake up in a dream/forever home every morning. This has been one of the greatest honors of my life."
