In the wake of September 11, 2001, a number of firefighters from FDNY were looking for ways to provide support to the country. They began volunteering at locations hard hit by disasters, like floods and tornadoes, rebuilding communities. After working with like-minded first responders in a number of locations, they formed A Soldier's Journey Home in 2014. Since then, ASJH has build eleven homes in Georgia (2), Tennessee (2), Illinois, Texas, Ohio, Maine, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Louisiana with current and retired firefighters, veterans and others from more than 23 states volunteering their time away from family and work to build a dream home for a worthy veteran recipient.
